Why Toner?

Hello!  I am working hard behind the scenes right now on a number of exciting changes but really want to get back to educating my clients (and the world :) on all things beauty that are important to me.  Today I'd like to talk about TONER.

SO many people I've had in my chair tell me 'Oh I don't use toner, it doesn't do anything for my skin.' What!?  I think somewhere along the line toner got left out in the all-important routine of skin care. Do you remember that phrase 'PH-Balanced' we used to hear in deodorant commercials a lot?  It's also important for your skin.

 

Put simply, the reason every day shower 'soaps' or cleansers shouldn't be used on your face is because they are very alkaline.  This is why your skin feels so tight and dry immediately after use- your skin has just been stripped of your natural oils and been thrown out of it's natural PH balance.  The PH balance of healthy skin should be around 5.5- you can see from the chart above that conventional soap is in the 9-11 range (sometimes even higher).  Even if you use a gentle cleanser formulated for the face, chances are that it's not as low in PH as you'd like it to be.  Enter: toner.  

Toner is used to BALANCE out all of this alkaline nonsense and bring your skin back to the 5.5 level it should be.  It also nurtures the skin and prepares your skin for moisturizer. Some toners can even exfoliate or soak up excess oil.  

Any way you look at it, toner is a very integral part of any skin care routine.  Cleansing and moisturizing won't do much if your skin is constantly trying to balance itself out!

All Spray Tans Are NOT Created Equal!

With summer slowly coming to a close, soon the best option for a sun-kissed glow will be the un-conventional (and safest!) route- the spray tan. 

The question I have gotten asked time and time again about the spray tans I offer: Will it make me ORANGE??  My short answer is, of course- No way!- but I feel compelled to explain the difference in our formula vs. other 'booth tans' or anything you can find in a drug store:

1. The main and only active ingredient in most self-tanners is DHA- Dihydroxyacetone.  Used alone, this is responsible for the carrot-like appearance of many D-list celebs from a tiny city on the east coast.. you know the ones ;)
2. Erythrulose is the magic-maker- this is the other key ingredient in my tanner!  Erythrulose produces a slower developing tan, taking 24 to 48 hours to fully develop. The final tone of erythrulose is slightly redder than the DHA based tan. When combined with DHA, the resulting sunless tan lasts longer, fades more smoothly, and produces a more cosmetically pleasing color tone that lasts for about 10 days.
3. I airbrush all my clients by hand (and on-site if needed!), taking the time and care to ensure that you have a streak-free & flawless experience!

In a nutshell, I have been a sunless tanner for years now and never have I seen such an impressive, even tan until now.  If only I could figure out how to spray-tan the back side of my body... :)

Cellulite Be Gone!

Whether you are underweight, overweight or in perfect shape- cellulite can happen to anyone.  It has less to do with your weight and more to do with your heredity (thanks mom!). There aren't any quick-fixes for these pesky dimples because it's actually persistent subcutaneous fat under the skin's surface- but we can help reduce the appearance of it tremendously!

Prior to getting in the shower, briskly (but lightly) brush your problem areas with upward strokes toward the heart.  Brush long enough to feel the stimulation but not enough that it starts to sting.
